Consume this tasty evening snack for its various health benefits

Cravings are a common occurrence, particularly in the evenings, often leading people to opt for tasty but unhealthy snacks. However, the possibility of substituting junk food with something both healthy and delicious exists.

Nutritionist and dietician Lovneet Batra recently took to Instagram to highlight the health advantages of incorporating ‘chickpeas’ into one’s diet, emphasizing their essential nutrients and the delightful option of enjoying them in the form of chana chaat. Her caption emphasized the simplicity of preparing this chaat using common and healthy ingredients like cucumber, onions, and tomatoes.

**Promoting Health:**

Batra underlined the nutritional benefits of chickpeas, citing them as a rich source of minerals such as magnesium and potassium. These minerals play a crucial role in supporting heart health by helping prevent high blood pressure, a significant risk factor for heart disease. The soluble fiber in chickpeas was also noted for its ability to lower triglycerides and LDL (bad) cholesterol, mitigating the risk of heart attacks.

**Regulating Hormonal Imbalances:**

Chickpeas were identified as an excellent source of phytonutrients and saponins, classified as plant hormones and antioxidants, respectively. These compounds contribute to lowering the risk of breast cancer and protecting against osteoporosis by maintaining optimal blood levels of the estrogen hormone. Furthermore, chickpeas were recognized for their role in alleviating mood changes during menstruation and addressing post-menopausal symptoms in women.

**Enhancing Brain Health:**

Additionally, chickpeas were highlighted as a valuable source of choline, a contributor to a healthy mind and improved brain health. The consumption of chickpeas was described as beneficial in the production of neurotransmitters that stimulate nerve cells, and it also supplies the body with magnesium, a mineral essential for proper nerve function.

By incorporating chickpeas into one’s diet, Batra suggested a flavorful and nutritious alternative to unhealthy cravings, promoting overall well-being and addressing specific health concerns.
